Case Study – Courtney’s Story
This case study shows how Courtney Lawrence has gone from being on a negative path, to become a highly motivated young woman with a positive future. Over a year, she has had 1-2-1 support from a Linx Senior Youth Worker and has been involved in group work, developing life and leadership skills.

Case Study – Shelby’s Story
Shelby is a young person who regularly attended the youth club sessions for around a year and a half and is still actively engaged with the project. Shelby has developed self-confidence and awareness of future goals and aspirations towards a career in working with children and young people. Shelby initially engaged the service through an open access youth club. From her earliest involvement she was very inquisitive about youth work and expressed a desire to do it as a job.

Case Study – Teegan’s Story
Teegan is almost 16, she has been attending Linx youth club for the past year. Teegan was often involved in risk taking behaviours and getting involved with the wrong people. She disengaged with education, leading to being moved from mainstream school to a Pupil Referral Unit.

Case Study – Luke’s Story
Luke is a young man who was at a critical moment in his life when he first engaged with Linx. He has worked hard to turn his life around, moving from involvement in crime and problems, he was facing some tough choices. However, he was able reach out for support at Linx and his efforts have put him on different pathway and he now looking forward to much better things to come.

Case Study – Holly’s Story
This case study shows how Holly Fryer, a girl from Hemlington, engaged with Linx services over a
number of years, including receiving 1-2-1 support from Senior Youth Workers, to address her personal
challenges and support her journey towards training and employment.

Case Study – Apprentices Carlton Residential 2020
As part of a series of residential work run in 2019-20, Linx Youth Work Apprentices James, Reasha and Raheem were given the opportunity to develop and run a residential for young people who were experiencing social isolation.

Case Study – The Key One Chance’s progression
One Chance started as a ‘The Key’ group of 13-14 year olds from Unity City Academy from different ethnic backgrounds. They were identified as challenging and disruptive in and out of school and ‘hard to engage’. The group were brought together by Linx to tackle serious issues around anti-social behaviour, racism, bullying and physical violence, as well as school absence.

Case Study – The Key 5 Stars Group
Linx and the Ethnic Minority Achievement Team (EMAT) from Middlesbrough Council worked together engage EAL (English as an Additional Language) students and International New Arrival young people with youth provision and opportunities. The group met at Newport Community Hub every Monday to plan and deliver their projects.

Case Study – Apprentices Feel Good ‘Boro
Working with Middlesbrough Borough Council, the Apprentices were given responsibility to develop and deliver a Middlesbrough-wide youth celebration, Feel Good Boro, in July 2018. A significant achievement and popular event, which was very successful.

Case Study – Thirteen Commissioned Work 2020
Linx has expanded its partnerships with local services, including Thirteen Housing Group, which is supporting open access services. Thirteen had already supported deliver of two local open access sessions in their localities and in March 2020, announced an award of £23,000 to Linx to deliver two projects for young people on the Netherfields estate for the following 12 months.

Case Study – PCC Commissioned Work 2019
Linx has worked with the PCC on a range of initiatives. A significant one in 2019 was when the PCC brought The Knife Angel on its National Anti-Violence Tour of the UK.

Case Study – Oberhausen Youth Exchanges 2019
Linx runs MULTI – an international youth exchange programme with a youth project from Oberhausen in Germany. Every two years young people aged 12+ have the chance to visit and stay with a host family. Oberhausen has been twinned with Middlesbrough since 1974, and has been running youth exchanges since 1953.
